The latest injury news on Mohamed Sanu, Phillip Dorsett

Earlier in the week, it seemed highly unlikely that Mohamed Sanu would play for the New England Patriots. Now, it at least seems that there's a chance that he will suit up.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, there is a chance that Sanu will play against the Dallas Cowboys, as his ankle felt much better on Saturday than it did earlier in the week. His status will depend on how he feels today.

This certainly makes it seem like Sanu is a game-time call. He'll need to be watched in warmups, as that will be where he tests his ankle if he decides to give it a go.

It would be a boon for the Patriots to have Sanu play, provided that he's healthy enough to be productive.

That said, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting that Sanu's role could be "extremely limited" if he does suit up and the likelihood is that he sits.

Of course, if Sanu isn't fully healthy but is active, he could serve as a decoy for the Patriots to draw attention from other receivers. And the Patriots can use all the help they can get at receiver, especially since Phillip Dorsett (concussion) is reportedly going to miss the game.

Dorsett suffered the concussion in Week 11 against the Eagles and was unable to clear the NFL's concussion protocol in time for Sunday's contest.

If Sanu is confirmed out in addition to Dorsett. the Patriots will have only four available options at receiver in Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry, Jakobi Meyers, and Matthew Slater. And the lattermost option, Slater, is almost exclusively a special teams player who has caught one pass during his career. That may force them to use their tight ends more, but that doesn't seem likely to help the offense much as their tight ends haven't been very productive so far this season.

We'll soon see if Sanu actually has a chance to suit up. For the time being, it seems unlikely, but his outcome is more optimistic than it was earlier in the week.
