Seal named after Julian Edelman released by Mystic Aquarium

Julian Edelman is a three-time Super Bowl champion. He has caught 499 regular season passes for 5,390 yards and 30 touchdowns. He has been named Super Bowl MVP and has added 115 catches for 1,412 yards and five touchdowns in his postseason career.

He also has a seal named after him.

The Mystic Aquarium had a seal named Edelman at their facility, but they recently released him back into the wild with the help of their Animal Rescue Team. Here's footage of the event via the aquarium.

Edelman the seal doesn't quite have the same speed and elusiveness as Edelman the player, but his 40-yard dash to the water was fairly strong.

Edelman, the player, did weigh in on his seal counterpart on Twitter, but he wasn't there for his release.

Perhaps Edelman is putting in some extra offseason work right now. The Patriots have been looking at quite a few receiving weapons ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft, including N'Keal Harry and Miles Boykin, so maybe Edelman is trying to sharpen his game ahead of extra competition arriving.

Believe it or not, this is the second time in the past three years that a seal named after a member of the New England Patriots has been released into the wild. Per Angelique Fiske of Patriots.com, another Mystic Aquarium seal named after Trey Flowers was released back into the wild back in 2017. Flowers was on hand for the release.
