If you thought the New Orleans Saints' poor play against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday would stop them from bringing up Super Bowl LI, you don't know the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints lost 26-9 at home to their bitter NFC South rival Sunday and trailed for most of the game.
And yet... Check out what the Saints played on the Mercedes-Benz Superdome Jumbotron midway through the fourth quarter while trailing 23-9, via The Athletic's Nick Underhill:
In case you forgot: The Falcons blew a 28-3 lead to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI. And the Saints would like to remind you. Again.
According to NOLA.com, the Saints rolled the Super Bowl LI highlights as part of a "record-setting Super Bowl performances" video, highlighting Atlanta's collapse against New England as "the biggest lead blow in Super Bowl history" before showing Drew Brees' record 32 completions in New Orleans' Super Bowl XLIV win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Outsiders may wonder why the Saints are jabbing the Falcons while losing to a 1-7 team at home, but as Underhill points out, schadenfreude is standard practice in this rivalry.
That means Patriots fans can expect to enjoy Super Bowl LI highlights whenever the Falcons come to New Orleans.
