Comcast SportsNet's Mike Giardi calls Rex Ryan "the gift that keeps on giving," and there's little doubt about that.
Ryan and his Bills -- both of whom did a lot of anti-Patriots yakking in the runup to the game, then fell behind 37-13 in a not-nearly-as-close-as-the-score-indicates 40-32 loss to the Pats in Week 2 -- are playing the Giants this week. But that didn't stop 'ol Rex from resurrecting his fixation on New England.
When discussing Giants quarterback Eli Manning, Ryan -- referring to New York's two Super Bowl victories over the Pats -- said: "I like the fact that he beat [Patriots quarterback Tom] Brady twice. I like that."
Really, Rex?
"I'm not all the way over the Brady butt-kicking he did against us (in Week 2)," he admitted.
Then, referring to the Patriots' going for it on fourth down with a huge lead, and continuing to throw the ball down the field, Rex said he was -- wait for it -- encouraged by his team's performance.
"What I loved is how we battled back when a team was clearly trying to embarrass us," Ryan said. "We stood up to them and said, 'Here we are. We're going to give you our best shot,' regardless of what the scoreboard is. So we'll see. Again, we'll play that one down the road."
New England Patriots
But CSNNE.com's Tom E. Curran, talking to Giardi on Comcast SportsNet's Patriots Wednesday Live, cautioned Ryan not to take too much solace in the garbage-time comeback.
"You're playing hoop against your little brother and you decide to take a 3 to finish the game and you miss it. Big deal. You still know you're going to win the game," Curran said. "So . . . yeah, they climbed back in, but was there ever a point where you said, 'Holy crap, here come the Bills!'?"
Not really, no.
