Robert Kraft's attorneys: Police used fake bomb threat to obtain video

The strategy of Robert Kraft's attorneys has been clear: Prove that Florida police's video evidence of the New England Patriots owner soliciting prostitution was obtained illegally to prevent it from going public.

Kraft's attorneys continued that fight Wednesday, criticizing Jupiter (Fla.) police in an expanded court filing for staging a fake bomb threat to install surveillance cameras in the Orchids of Asia Day Spa and obtain video footage of Kraft.

"Jupiter police initiated 'a phony ‘suspicious package' warning to be issued for the Spa in order to force an evacuation, so the [police] could install hidden cameras inside several of its private massage rooms, as well as in the spa’s lobby," the filing read, via Yahoo Sports.

Jack Goldberger, who wrote the filing, called Florida police's bomb threat a "ruse" that "concealed the execution of the Warrant from the Spa, its employees, and its customers, none of whom received notice of the issuance of the Warrant or the placement of hidden video cameras on Spa premises."

Kraft's legal team filed a similar motion last week asking video evidence of Kraft at Orchids of Asia be suppressed on the grounds of an unlawful search warrant.

In Wednesday's filing, Goldberger deemed investigators' tactics "constitutionally problematic" and claimed police used "allusions to human trafficking" that were "founded on fiction" to obtain their warrant.

Police haven't been able to explicitly prove human trafficking in the investigation, but Jupiter police detective Andrew Sharp wrote in his warrant filing that police believed female employees were living at the spa due to the presence of "two rooms with beds, including sheets and pillows," according to USA TODAY.

Kraft has pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges of soliciting prostitution, and after his attorneys appeared in court Tuesday, future proceedings will be scheduled during an April 9 hearing.
