According to Ian Rapoport, the Titans will release cornerback Jason McCourty, making him a free agent.
McCourty, 29, is the identical twin brother of Patriots safety Devin McCourty. The two played college football together at Rutgers, with Jason being drafted in 2009 and Devin being selected by the Pats a year later.
The veteran corner was entering the final year of a six-year, $43 million extension he had signed with the Titans in the 2012 offseason. Last season, he had two interceptions, a fumble recovery and 69 tackles in 14 games for Tennessee.
While the Patriots' cornerback situation is fluid at the moment given the uncertainty of Malcolm Butler's future and their reported interest in Richard Sherman, McCourty's name would figure to be linked to the Patriots given their past interest in trading for the player.
