Report: Sony Michel likely to play vs Titans; Rob Gronkowski week-to-week

Both Sony Michel and Rob Gronkowski sat out with injuries during Sunday night's game vs the Packers, but at least one of the two Patriots standouts could return as soon as next week.

On the Monday Night Football pregame show, ESPN's Adam Schefter provided updates on Michel and Gronkowski. Schefter says Michel is likely to play Sunday vs the Titans, while Gronkowski could sit out until after the Pats' bye week.

"It's been a season-long question with Rob Gronkowski, who's really been week-to-week with back and ankle injuries," Schefter said. "But keep in mind that after playing the Titans on Sunday, the Patriots have a bye, so if they rest Gronkowski this week, that would get him two weeks of rest for the price of one, but these issues have nagged at Gronkowski all year long. They continue to do the same.

As for Sony Michel, who was inactive [against the Packers], he's getting closer to playing, and it sounds like he's likely to play against Tennessee on Sunday if he has a good week of practice."

The Patriots fared well with Cordarrelle Patterson in at running back vs the Packers, but there's no doubt they'd love to have their rookie return to action. As for Gronkowski, it makes sense to play it safe given the tight end's lengthy injury history.
