The rich are getting richer.
The morning after demolishing the New York Jets to improve to 7-0, the New England Patriots are acquiring wide receiver Mohamed Sanu from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a 2020 second-round draft pick, ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported early Tuesday morning.
According to Rapoport, New England tried to trade for Sanu during the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Patriots were in the market for a wide receiver, entering Monday night with just three healthy receivers behind Julian Edelman in Phillip Dorsett and rookies Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski thanks to Josh Gordon's injury.
Sanu has been a consistent producer over eight NFL seasons split between the Cincinnati Bengals and Falcons. He has 33 receptions for 313 yards and one touchdown this season and is coming off a career-best 838-yard campaign in 2018.
The 30-year-old also played college ball at Rutgers from 2009 to 2011, where he overlapped with Devin and Jason McCourty, Duron Harmon and Patriots assistant coach Steve Belichick, who was the team's long-snapper.
Sanu is under contract through the 2020 season and is expected to have a cap hit of $6 million next season, per Miguel Benzan of the Boston Sports Journal.
