Report: Giants' Pierre-Paul had finger amputated

Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, injured in July 4 fireworks accident, had his right index finger amputated on Wednesday, according to a copy of a medical chart tweeted by ESPN Adam Schefter.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport confirmed Schefter's report and tweeted that the amputation will accelerate Pierre-Paul's recovery and could "get him back in fewer than 2 months."

NBC's Pro Football Talk reported that a lawsuit could result from the medical records leak.

Earlier, Giants officials attempted to visit Pierre-Paul in the hospital in Florida but left without seeing him.

Since the accident, the Giants have withdrawn a multi-year $60 million contract offer to Pierre-Paul, 26, who is not under contract for next season. He has yet to sign a $14.8 million franchise tag tender offer from the Giants, who can rescind that offer, which would make the former All-Pro a free agent.
