The New England Patriots are the lone unbeaten team remaining in the AFC, and they'll try to improve their record to 8-0 Sunday when they host the Cleveland Browns at Gillette Stadium for a Week 8 matchup.
The Patriots are coming off a 33-0 rout of the New York Jets on Monday night, and their offense received a boost Tuesday with the addition of veteran wide receiver Mohamed Sanu in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons. Sanu can play outside or in the slot, providing valuable versatility for offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. The No. 1 reason for New England's hot start, however, has been its defense, a unit that enters Sunday leading the NFL in points allowed per game, yards allowed per game and turnovers.
The Browns have been among the biggest disappointments in the league with a 2-4 record. Cleveland was a trendy pick to win the AFC North division before the season, but quarterback Baker Mayfield has played well below expectations and leads the league in interceptions. The Browns had a bye in Week 7, so they should be fully ready for the difficult task of facing the Patriots on the road after two weeks of preparation.
Weather also could be a factor Sunday. The latest forecast for Foxboro, Mass., calls for a 100 percent chance of rain throughout the afternoon and early evening.
