Patriots place Langi on non-football injury list, promote LB Reilly

FOXBORO -- The Patriots placed Harvey Langi, who was injured in a car crash earlier this month, on the non-football injury list Wednesday. That freed a spot on the team's active roster for practice-squad linebacker Trevor Reilly to be promoted.

Langi appeared to be in line to serve as a depth edge defender and special-teamer for the Patriots before suffering what has been reported as head and neck injuries following an accident two weeks ago. Langi and his wife were stopped at a traffic light when they were rear-ended by another vehicle and then collided with a third car. The couple had to be freed from their car with the Jaws of Life and were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Reilly was re-signed to the Patriots practice squad earlier this month. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder spent time on the Patriots practice squad last season before being signed to the Dolphins active roster in December. He began this year on the Miami practice squad.

Taking Reilly's spot to round out the 10-man practice squad is defensive lineman Mike Purcell, who was present at Wednesday's rainy outdoor practice. He has appeared in 25 games with eight starts for the 49ers  since 2014 and totaled 48 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble before being released on May 2. Since then he's spent time with the Rams, the Bears practice squad and the Panthers practice squad.
