Patriots add former Jets LB Trevor Reilly to the practice squad

FOXBORO -- The Patriots have added some special teams and linebacker depth to their practice squad by signing linebacker Trevor Reilly. In order to make room on the 10-man unit, the team released receiver Shaq Evans.

Reilly was a seventh-round draft pick of the Jets in 2014. He was waived/injured in September and reverted to injured reserve but reached an injury settlement with the team soon thereafter.

Though Reilly is only in his third pro season, he is 28 years old. After graduating high school in the San Diego area he served a two-year Mormon mission before enrolling at Utah.

Reilly led the Jets in special teams tackles last season, contributing both in punt and kickoff coverage. With Patriots linebacker Jonathan Freeny landing on injured reserve recently, Reilly could potentially help fill Freeny's role in the kicking game should he earn a promotion to the active roster.

The Patriots had perfect attendance at practice Thursday for the second day in a row.
