Panthers' Eric Reid texted Patriots TE Benjamin Watson to apologize for late hit

Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid forced New England Patriots tight end Benjamin Watson to enter the concussion protocol as a result of a dangerous late hit in last Thursday's preseason game.

Reid made it clear after the game that he wasn't trying to intentionally hurt Watson. He also admitted the hit was late and anticipated receiving a fine from the NFL.

The veteran defensive back also has revealed he texted Watson to apologize for the play.

The league has not announced any further discipline for Reid, but NFL Media's Tom Pelissero did note last Friday that the hit was being evaluated for a possible fine.

The Patriots host the New York Giants on Thursday night in their preseason finale at Gillette Stadium. It's unknown if Watson will play versus the Giants. If Watson doesn't play, we won't see him again until at least Week 5 because he's suspended for the first four games of the regular season due to a failed drug test.
