It didn't take long for Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman to backtrack on his Tom Brady comments.
Robey-Coleman told Bleacher Report that age has "taken a toll" on Brady, and that he "isn't the same quarterback he was." But during Super Bowl LIII Opening Night, he sang a different tune.
“That was out of context,” Robey-Coleman said. “Tom is a great quarterback. He’s the GOAT. He’s a legend. I’m not taking nothing from his game. I was asked a question about the difference between the past and now, I said his age. It wasn’t about ‘He’s old.’ I’m not taking nothing away from him. It was just his age.”
Brady's age wasn't the only subject of Robey-Coleman's trash talk, however. The former Bills cornerback also said he "hated" New England, and he clarified those comments as well on Monday night.
"I was asked a question of where [the hate for the Patriots] all started from," Robey-Coleman said. "You naturally not like New England just because they're the rival in the AFC East. We play them twice a year. Other than New England, it's the Miami Dolphins, so that's what I was faced with in Buffalo. That's it."
No matter how much he steps back from his comments, Robey-Coleman has set himself to be a Freddie Mitchell-like enemy when the Patriots and Rams face off on Feb. 3.
