The Houston Texans absolutely shocked the football world Monday by agreeing to trade one of the NFL's best wide receivers in DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for an underwhelming return package.
Here are the parameters of the agreed upon trade.
David Johnson is a good running back and a 2020 second-round pick is nice, but how did the Texans trade one of the three-best wideouts and not get a first-round pick? The NFL is a passing league, and Hopkins teamed up with star quarterback Deshaun Watson to give Houston one of the most talented QB-WR tandems in the sport. Hopkins is up for a new contract soon and there's been reports of friction between he and Texans head coach Bill O'Brien, but there's still no defense for what Houston got in return for an elite player.
The good news for the rest of the AFC, including the New England Patriots, is that one of the conference's top contenders just lost arguably their best player without a suitable replacement on the roster.
You can probably imagine there's been no shortage of takes when it comes to this blockbuster deal. Here's some of the best Twitter reaction to the shocking Hopkins trade.
