NFL rumors: Patriots among teams that could trade up in first round of draft

The New England Patriots enter the 2019 NFL Draft with the last pick in the first round, but will they end up moving up if a certain player drops?

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport listed a few teams that could move up in the first round Thursday night, and the Patriots were listed.

New England has pick No. 32 in Round 1, but head coach Bill Belichick has plenty of draft capital to use in a trade for a better first-round pick. The Patriots currently have 12 picks overall, which is tied with the New York Giants for the most of any team. Included in that haul is two second-round selections and three third-round picks. A combination of those picks and/or others could be used to move up in Round 1.

Which player would the Patriots target if they moved up in the first round?

Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst reported on a recent podcast that New England will "seriously consider" trading up for Iowa tight end Noah Fant. Fant and Iowa teammate T.J. Hockenson are the two highest-ranked tight ends in this draft class.

Tight end is a huge need for the Patriots after Rob Gronkowski recently retired and Dwayne Allen was released before free agency.
