NFL Rumors: Josh Gordon tried to “get ahead” of suspension news with tweet

Share

Josh Gordon shocked the football world Thursday morning by announcing he's stepping away from the New England Patriots.

That his announcement came before reports of him facing an indefinite suspension apparently is no coincidence.

Gordon was notified of his suspension this morning and released his announcement on Twitter as a way to "get ahead" of the news, FanSided.com's Jason Cole reported Thursday.

Gordon tweeted his announcement at 9:26 a.m. ET but didn't mention any suspension, noting he's leaving the Patriots to "focus on my mental health."

About 10 minutes later, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Gordon is facing an "indefinite suspension" for violating the terms of his NFL reinstatement.

Gordon (hopefully) is making the right decision by stepping away to seek the help he needs, but it sounds like his departure wasn't exactly voluntary.

As for Gordon's future with the Patriots: While final punishment hasn't been determined yet, it appears the 27-year-old's football career very well could be over.
