New grandfather Bill Belichick announces ‘roster addition' on conference call

Bill Belichick very rarely begins his conference calls with announcements of any kind. Even more rare are announcements that break news on roster additions. He usually likes to let the team issue a release for those.

So when the Patriots coach began his conference call on Tuesday with, "Well, we have a roster addition to announce this morning," you knew something was up.

"It’s a little different than the usual one and the emphasis would be on little," he continued. "We can add newborn Blakely Rose to the depth chart. She was born this morning to my son Steve and the real ‘MVP’, Jen, so this is a happy and exciting day for all of us. And with that we’ll move on to the Steelers."

Blakely Rose is Belichick's first grandchild, and of course he was up on her measureables when jokingly asked for the scouting report on her height, weight and speed. "Twenty inches, seven pounds," he said.

Steve Belichick is in his first year as Patriots safeties coach and his fifth year as an assistant on his father's coaching staff.
