Josh Gordon is serving an indefinite suspension and likely won't return to the New England Patriots anytime soon.
So, why does he draw so many headlines? The short answer: he's still tantalizingly talented.
Take it from Detroit Lions wide receiver Brandon Powell, who trained with Gordon at NUMA Speed in Gainesville, Fla., this offseason and was amazed by his athleticism.
"It’s like watching a horse run,” Powell told the Boston Herald's Kevin Duffy. “He goes from zero to 100. To be so big and run like that, it’s pretty crazy … We run conditioning on the track — 100s, 150s — and he dusts everybody."
Powell has trained with Gordon for the last two offseasons, doing daily sprint workouts under Olympic sprinting coach Tim Montgomery. And while Gordon has played in just 17 games over the last four seasons due to multiple suspensions, Powell believes the Patriots wide receiver is fully capable of picking up right where he left off.
"If you train with him, you wouldn’t even know that he’s suspended or anything," Powell added of Gordon.
New England Patriots
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady also trained with Gordon this past offseason. And while New England apparently isn't banking on having the 28-year-old around this season -- he reportedly has applied for reinstatement, but that's the last update we have -- the slim chance of his return should still be enough to make the Patriots and their fans excited.
