Kyler Murray expected to enter NFL draft

Kyler Murray may be on the verge of choosing a professional career in football over one in baseball.

The Oakland Athletics expect the Oklahoma quarterback, who was their top draft pick last June, to enter the NFL draft on Sunday according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

"Should Murray, 21, opt to enter the NFL draft, the real question will come Feb. 15 when A’s position players report to Mesa, Ariz.," Slusser writes. "Murray has an invite to big-league camp. He could still opt to be in the A’s camp, but the NFL scouting combine begins Feb. 26 and any high-round hopeful would be expected to attend. That’s when Murray would have to make a decision between football and baseball, and one source told The Chronicle that Murray, a likely first-round NFL pick, is leaning toward football."

If Murray indeed declares for the NFL draft, it adds another intriguing option for the Patriots should they be in the QB market again this offseason. The Heisman Trophy winner stands just 5-foot-10, but likely still projects as a first-round or early second-round pick due to strong arm and sheer athleticism.
