Kyle Van Noy says ‘Don't compare me to' Rodney Harrison in awkward exchange

New England Patriots linebacker Kyle Van Noy doesn't want to be compared to former NFL safety Rodney Harrison.

Van Noy went on 98.5 The Sports Hub's "Zolak & Bertrand" on Wednesday for his weekly appearance on the show, and the subject of Harrison came up.

Harrison, of course, played the last six seasons of his career with the Patriots from 2003 through 2008 and helped the team win two Super Bowl titles. He was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame in August. Harrison was good at playing the nobody believes in us and nobody gave us a chance cards while with the Patriots. The former defensive back also used trash talk from opponents to help motivate the Patriots, and Van Noy admitted after Sunday's 16-10 win over the Bills that he wanted to make sure Dion Dawkins knew who the Patriots were after Buffalo's left tackle provided New England with some bulletin board material earlier in the week.

The awkward exchange Wednesday came after co-host Marc Bertrand and Van Noy talked about Dawkins' comments. Bertrand said to Van Noy, "You're doing the Rodney Harrison role on this team, which I give you credit for."

Van Noy quickly interjected, "Don't compare me to him, man."

Bertrand made it clear his Harrison comment was a compliment to Van Noy, but the Patriots linebacker still didn't want the comparison.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, who was in studio as a third co-host during the segment, asked Van Noy if there "was anything there" between him and Harrison. Van Noy said he has nothing against Harrison, but "definitely" doesn't want to be compared to the legendary safety.

Shortly after the clip in the tweet above, Bertrand said of Harrison,"He was a great player, great leader, Super Bowl winner." Van Noy responded, "Yeah, he just does things differently than myself. That's fair, right?"

In related news, the NFL on Wednesday announced Van Noy was selected as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4. The veteran linebacker led the Patriots with eight tackles, three QB hits, two sacks and two forced fumbles in their victory against Bills.
