Julian Edelman's first night in Atlanta for Super Bowl LIII was an interesting one.
Nate Davis of USA TODAY Sports was in a cab Sunday night when he could have sworn he saw a familiar face (and beard) roaming the streets of Atlanta all by himself. On Wednesday, Edelman confirmed it indeed was him.
“I did go on a little adventure,” Edelman told Davis.
“I just went on a walk. I was like a block away from where MLK was born, and I just wanted to kinda see it. No one was really in for the Super Bowl yet. … It was cool to see the little restaurants and joints — soulful looking stuff — it just seemed cool, and I wanted to go check it out.”
Nothing out of the ordinary there, right? Checking out restaurants and other hot spots is what most people do when they visit a new city.
Well, Edelman decided to get a tour of Atlanta with a stranger, who had no idea he was giving a tour to the Patriots wide receiver that made the catch against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.

“I ended up walking with this guy for 30 minutes who didn’t know who I was,” Edelman said.
“It was cool, I enjoyed it.”
From what he's seen so far, Edelman is a fan of what the ATL has to offer.
“All my friends say it’s a cool town,” he said.
“Getting to see it, it seems pretty live. I would like to check it out.”
In Edelman's 10-year career, the Patriots have only visited Atlanta once. That was in 2013 when Edelman had seven receptions for 118 yards in a victory over the Falcons.
