Since being reinstated by the NFL in August, Josh Gordon hasn't made much of a splash with the New England Patriots.
Spending a significant amount of time away from football isn't great for any player, but offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels isn't the slightest bit worried about Gordon's performance thus far.
“Josh is doing well. He’s ready to go, he practices well, he practices hard, he really studies the game plan,” McDaniels said according to Boston.com's Zachary DuPont. “I’m very happy with what he’s doing, and we’re going to continue to work with him and all our skill guys, hopefully as we go through the season, to improve and reach our best performances. Whatever the peak is for us this year, we’re certainly not there yet and we have a lot of work, a lot of practice to put in to reach that. But I’m very happy with what Josh is doing.”
McDaniels actually took most of the blame for Gordon's slow start this season, saying he needs to do a better job of getting the wide receiver the ball in any situation.
“He’s moved into multiple positions this year, whereas last year he was more in one spot most of the time,” McDaniels said. “Honestly, I need to do a better job of finding ways to get him the ball throughout the course of the game in whatever role or position that we’re asking him to play.”
Through four games, Gordon has 14 receptions for 221 yards with one touchdown. Of those catches, the 28-year-old has been targeted 27 times with 15.8 yards per reception and is only averaging 3.5 receptions per game.

Considering New England's offense struggled immensely against the Buffalo Bills last weekend, it would be a good idea to try and get the ball to Gordon a bit more. The Patriots' upcoming matchup with the 0-4 Washington Redskins would be a great time to put Gordon to the test.
The Pats will take on the Redskins at FedExField on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
