The New England Patriots shocked the world during the 2001 season when they won Super Bowl XXXVI over the heavily favored St. Louis Rams, who famously were nicknamed "The Greatest Show on Turf."
The Patriots started out 0-2, and in the second game of the season versus the New York Jets, the franchise's history (and that of the NFL) changed forever. Veteran quarterback Drew Bledsoe took a massive hit from Jets linebacker Mo Lewis, opening the door for Tom Brady to become the starter -- a job he still has to this day.
Even Patriots fans would admit this team, while very talented, isn't among the very best teams in league history. But where does it rank in the pantheon of legendary squads? NFL Network's countdown of the 100 greatest teams in history is ongoing as part of its NFL 100 series, and this 2001 Patriots team came in at No. 51.
Check out the video below for a look back at the first of six Super Bowl-winning Patriots teams over the last 20 years:
The 2001 Rams ranked just nine spots ahead of the 2001 Patriots at No. 60 on the NFL's ranking.
