NASHVILLE -- Stephon Gilmore said a week ago that he doesn't want to get too ahead of himself placing himself near the top of the list of the league's corners this year.
He had teammates calling him the best in football after he shut down Davante Adams in last week's win over the Packers, but he didn't join them.
“You can't get caught up in last week," Gilmore said at the time. "No matter who you're going against this week, it starts over. You gotta really focus on each and every play, getting better. Going against somebody different this week, and I gotta prove myself this week."

Against Corey Davis and the Titans, Gilmore took a step back. He was in zone coverage but closest to Davis when Davis pulled in a 24-yarder early. That was followed up by a 16-yarder and a 23-yard touchdown. Davis also reeled in a killer 20-yard grab on third-and-14 that extended a Titans drive ending with a Derrick Henry touchdown.
"He made some plays today," Gilmore said. "He stemmed me a little bit so he had a good day today."

On the touchdown, which made it 14-3, Davis hit Gilmore with a stop-and-go move that got Davis a step on his defender. Mariota then dropped in a pinpoint throw for the score.

"Good throw. Good catch," Gilmore said. "Maybe I could've played it a little softer. I was right there. Good throw. Good catch. He made a good play."
Mariota entered the game with five touchdown passes in seven games on the season, but he added two more on 16-for-24 passing and 228 yards. Half of his throws went for 20 yards or more, despite the fact the Titans entered the game among the worst in the league at creating explosive plays.
Mariota has dealt with a nerve issue in his hand since early this season, but on several throws it didn't keep him from being accurate down the field.
"He's been able to make some throws down the field," Harmon said. "Obviously he's dealing with a nerve issue in the hand. But we knew what kind of quarterback he is.
"Has been playing good football for four years now. We knew he could make all the throws. We just didn't do a good job of executing. Executing our calls. Executing our coverage. He made some good throws, but we knew he could make those good throws."

That he made a handful of those throws with Gilmore in coverage -- especially since Gilmore came into the game with a sub-47.0 quarterback rating since Week 3 -- was a surprise.
According to Pro Football Focus, Gilmore allowed six catches on eight targets in coverage of Davis for 98 yards and a score.
"Learn from it," Gilmore said. "It's a copycat league. [Future opponents are] gonna try to scheme us, run the same routes against us, stuff like that. Learn from it. Get better. Move on."
