Former Patriot J.C. Jackson suffers season-ending knee injury

J.C. Jackson's debut season with the Los Angeles Chargers is officially over.

The 2021 Second-Team All-Pro cornerback suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee during the Chargers' loss on Sunday. Head coach Brandon Staley announced Monday that Jackson would miss the rest of this season.

The non-contact injury occurred late in the first half while Jackson was defending Seahawks receiver Marquise Goodwin. Jackson was carted off to the locker room after the team put an air cast on his right leg.

Here's a look at the play:

Jackson signed a five-year, $82.5 million deal with the Chargers in March after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Patriots. He was a star in New England, totaling 25 interceptions in 62 games for Bill Belichick's squad.

Since joining Los Angeles, Jackson hasn't seen the same level of success. He missed two of the first three games after undergoing ankle surgery in August. When Jackson finally got on the field, he struggled in coverage. Through his first four games before Sunday, Jackson allowed 17 catches on 23 targets for three touchdowns, no interceptions and an opponent passer rating of 155.3.

Jackson is still just 26 years old after going undrafted in 2018. Moving forward, the 4-3 Chargers will turn to Asante Samuel Jr., Bryce Callahan and Michael Davis in the secondary.
