It was a busy Sunday for the chronically dirty Vontaze Burfict.
There was his low-bridge dive at the knees of tight end Martellus Bennett was the ball was thrown to the other side of the field. Everyone watching the broadcast saw that.
There was also a leg-stomp by Burfict which wasn’t as readily apparent until ESPN’s Mike Reiss tweeted out the video of the Bengals linebacker wading into a pile after a LeGarrette Blount touchdown and stomping down. Blount’s reaction was to shove Burfict. Burfict flopped.
The damage for the stomp will be $75,000 according to Pro Football Talk’s Zac Jackson. The NFL is reportedly reviewing the knee shot from behind for no reason on Bennett. The expectation in Cincy is there’ll be no suspension which is a head-scratcher as it seems Burfict’s being given the benefit of the doubt.
Burfict was fined four times in 2015 for dirty hits, including one in Week 17 when he similarly hit an opponent who was out of the play. He was suspended the first three games of the season.
