Bruce Irvin turns down more money from Patriots, Steelers to sign with home-town Falcons

The Patriots have been adding defensive players in the last few days, but, in this case, they couldn't overcome the lure of going home.

Saying "you just can't put a price" on playing for your hometown team, ex-Raiders outside linebacker/defensive end Bruce Irvin turned down a higher monetary offer from the Patriots -- and the Steelers, as well -- to sign with his hometown Falcons.

"This was a dream [come] true," Irvin told ESPN's Vaughn McClure. "The Patriots and Steelers offered more money, but being able to play for my city and my people, you just can’t put a price on that.''

Irvin, released by Oakland late last week as part of Jon Gruden's midseason housecleaning, cleared waivers Tuesday and signed a one-year deal with Atlanta early Wednesday.
