Brady on reported extension for Goodell: ‘I don't have any thoughts'

Tom Brady has said many times it doesn't do him any good to harbor negative emotions for those who opposed him in Deflategate. In an interview with TheMMQB's Peter King following Super Bowl LI, he summed up his thoughts thusly: "I don’t want to give my power away to other people by letting my own emotions be subjected to what their thoughts or opinions are. So if someone calls me something, that’s their problem. It’s not my problem. I’m not going to give away my power."

It comes as little surprise, then, that when he was asked about Roger Goodell's reported contract extension to remain commissioner of the NFL, Brady had little to say.

"Nope," Brady told Mike Mutnansky and Andy Hart on WEEI's Kirk and Callahan Show. "I don't have any thoughts."

According to multiple reports, the NFL is close to signing a deal that would keep Goodell in the commissioner's role through the 2024 season. Goodell is 58 years old and was first named commissioner in September of 2006.

The league's current collective bargaining agreement is set to expire following the 2020 season, which means that once the deal is finalized, Goodell will be in position to have a major impact on yet another CBA, as he did back in 2011 during that year's lockout.
