Bill Belichick talks preparation for weather conditions, future in forecasting

FOXBORO -- It could be a rainy day at Gillette Stadium when the New England Patriots host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, but Bill Belichick isn't concerned with the weather forecast until it's game day.

The forecast also called for harsh conditions in Foxboro for the Patriots' Week 6 matchup vs. the Giants, but it turned out to be a false alarm. That could explain why Belichick chooses to wait "as late as possible" to start talking to his staff about the possible impact the weather could have on the game.

"I mean, the Giants game was supposed to be a monsoon and everything here, and like usual there was not one drop of rain and I'd say minimal wind," Belichick said on Friday. "We went down to Miami and we thought it was going to be hot. We thought it was going to be hot when the game was scheduled, we thought it was going to be hot in training camp, we thought it was going to be hot the week before the game, we thought it was going to be hot the day of the game. And it was. So predicting heat in Miami in September or whenever it was, maybe can figure that out.

"But the rest of it, look, I've seen the forecast but this is the exact same forecast we had for the Giants, and not one drop of rain. So, we'll see. I'm sure it's hard to get it right, especially in a specific location such as this. Like, where it is 10 miles from here and where it is here makes all the difference in the world to us."

As of Friday, Sunday's weather forecast at Gillette Stadium predicts a 100-percent chance of rain, 12-mph winds, and a temperature of approximately 50 degrees when the Patriots and Browns take the field.

Belichick capped off his press conference with a joke about a possible career as a meteorologist when he decides to leave the game of football.
