Report: Red Sox willing to deal Andrew Bailey

Share

The Red Sox' plan to replace Jonathan Papelbon as their closer last year with Andrew Bailey went off the rails when Bailey broke a thumb late in spring training. He missed the first 4 12 months of the season, then was ineffective when he returned (1-1, 6 saves, 3 blown saves, 7.04 ERA).

He was so ineffective, in fact, that ESPN's Buster Olney reported that the Sox have floated his name in trade talks. But his value is so low right now, Olney added, that the Sox are unlikely to trade him.
