Pedro Martinez: Red Sox lifer? Maybe, if the team gets its way, according to a report by MLB.com.
Weve had discussions, said general manager Ben Cherington. He knows there is a role waiting for him when the time is right for him.
From Hardball Talk:
It would probably be one of those special assistant front office gigs rather than an actual major league coaching job, but its a nice gesture anyway and one that might warrant serious consideration from the 41-year-old right-hander at some point down the line.
Of course Pedro spent time with the Dodgers and Expos, Mets and Phillies at different points in his career. But Boston is where he became one of the greats of all time -- he had a 2.52 ERA and 10.9 K9 in seven seasons here. Why not come back and finish his career in baseball with a job in the front office?
