He's not Roy Oswalt, and really, he's not even close, but the Red Sox signed another less-than-thrilling pitcher to a minor league contract Thursday in right-handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf.
Ohlendorf is one 24 players who will attend the team's Major League Spring Training roster as a non-roster invite.
Spending the majority of last season on the disabled list, Ohlendorf started nine games for the Pittsburgh Pirates, going 1-3 in 38.2 innings with a whopping 8.15 ERA and 1.94 WHIP.
In 2010, Ohlendorf went just 1-11 with a 4.07 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 108.1 innings pitched, but had the most success in 2009 with the Pirates. In 29 starts that season, Ohlendorf went 11-10 with a 3.92 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 176.2 innings. He struck out 109 batters in the process.
For his career, Ohlendorf, 29, has gone 14-28 with a 4.77 ERA (208 ER392.2 IP) and 273 strikeouts in 95 appearances (64 starts) over parts of five Major League seasons with the Yankees (2007-08) and Pirates (2008-11).
