The Red Sox held a press conference for David Ortiz to announce the signing of his two-year deal with the team.
After, he took some time to speak with CSNNE's Jessica Moran, who asked him why he chose to come back to the Sox.
"Well I want to be part of this rebuilding situation that we are putting together here," Ortiz said. "I've been here for a while. I pretty much love the way we do things. We haven't been able to put together the last couple of years what we're looking for. But our GM and the front office are moving forward to put together a better ball club next year and who's better than myself and a couple of my teammates to move things around? I think that's what they're looking for."
Were there other teams on his list? Nope. Ortiz said that from the start the Sox showed interest in getting a multi-year extension done. Now that he's locked up for two seasons, a weight is lifted off his shoulders.
"I still feel that there's a lot of things that I need to chase," Ortiz said. "The one thing when it comes down to a two-year deal, people more see it as a secure year than anything else but in my case it's going through the offseason every year and start talking about contract and going through all this ever year when i know that i can be facing a better situation. It's not comfortable."
Well get comfortable, Big Papi!
