David Ortiz wasn't the only one who got a new deal yesterday when the Red Sox announced that they had signed him to a new two-year contract. Ortiz's son, D'Angelo, was brought to the podium for another, equally important, not-at-all-ridiculous announcement.
"This guy just signed his first deal with Larry Lucchino," Ortiz said with a laugh. "A 5 contract. How 'bout that, man?"
D'Angelo paused, obviously not wanting to tick off his new boss.
"It's alright," he said.
The crowd laughed. But Lucchino must have been there somewhere, lurking in the back of the room with a scowl on his face. Another spoiled employee. It doesn't matter how early you get to them, it seems. Always wanting more.
