Third baseman Will Middlebrooks, who was recently added to the Red Sox' 40-man roster, left the Sox' Arizona Fall League team after injuring his thumb while attempting to catch a foul ball. But he's progressing on schedule from the injury and is expected to be ready by the start of spring training.
Hes doing well, said Ben Crockett, Sox director of player development. "Were still on the same timetable where the cast is off right now and he should be ready to start his offseason workouts in the next couple weeks.
Middlebrooks was good and I think made some good strides while he was playing the Fall League.
