On paper, the Celtics are the most logical [Anthony] Davis destination.
That's how NBC's NBA Insider, Tom Haberstroh, begins his analysis of why Davis -- who reportedly has told the Pelicans he won't sign a contract extension with New Orleans and in fact wants to be traded -- is not likely to be dealt by the Feb. 7 in-season deadline and will probably spend the rest of 2018-19 as a Pelican. That presumably is to the Celtics' advantage, as they can't realistically make a deal for Davis until July 1 at the earliest.
But before you get too excited, Celtics fans:
While the Celtics have the most to offer, it’s not a given that they’d win the Brow sweepstakes. Many still believe that the Lakers are the ultimate destination.
“Ainge will do what he can, but I don’t think AD wants to be there,” said one Eastern Conference executive.
Haberstroh quickly points out that could be "wishful thinking from a decision-maker that would have to face Davis more if he’s dealt to his conference." Or . . .
In any case, click here to read Haberstroh's read of the situation, including why the Lakers' package isn't as good today as it was a few months ago and how Duke's Zion Williamson could affect it all.
