These two Boston stars were among most tweeted about athletes in 2018

Twitter is a really interesting place, to say the least, but it's a great space for fans to talk about their favorite sports teams and players.

Complex recently revealed the list of athletes who most often were tweeted about in the United States in 2018, and two Boston stars made the cut: New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving.

Brady's inclusion isn't really a surprise given the fact he plays on the best NFL team and arguably is the best player in the history of the sport. The Patriots are a polarizing team, of course, with every game heavily scrutinzed. It is interesting, though, that Brady would make this list despite not having his own Twitter account -- he mostly uses Instagram. The other four athletes on the list all have a Twitter account with more than 1 million followers.

Irving didn't play in the 2018 NBA playoffs because of injury, but as the cornerstone star of a marquee franchise, it's no surprise he's on this list. Irving's upcoming contract situation, recovery from knee surgery, massive popularity in the sneaker market, and other factors also contributed to his social media popularity.

As 2018 draws to a close, it wouldn't be a shock if Irving and Brady make the 2019 list as well. Both of them have a great opportunity to win a championship in the first half of 2019.
