That's 1,000 3-pointers for the Celtics as they extend franchise record

INDIANAPOLIS -- With 9:13 in the first quarter against the Pacers, Kyrie Irving drained the Celtics' second 3-pointer of the game - and it was a big one.

That made 3-pointer gave the Celtics 1,000 made 3’s on the season, putting them in an uber-elite class of long-range shooting teams.

The Celtics broke the team record for 3's in a season when Marcus Morris knocked down their 986th on Monday night against the Heat.

Before this season, only five teams had made as many 3-pointers in a season.

But this is a new era in the NBA when it comes to the 3-point shot, the preferred weapon of mass destruction to defenses by most teams - the Celtics included.

This season, four teams - Houston, Milwaukee, Golden State and Atlanta have connected on at least 1,000 3-pointers.

And the Celtics will soon be followed by the Brooklyn Nets, who prior to Friday had 996 made 3-pointers this season.
