Stars, Studs and Duds: Starter or coming off bench, Edwards continues to shine for Celtics

LAS VEGAS -- Prior to their summer league game, Celtics coach Brad Stevens talked about Carsen Edwards as some who could have a big impact on the team this season.

Edwards went out and lived up to the lofty praise in carrying the young C's to a 95-82 win over Denver (2-1) to keep their unblemished record (3-0).

And it was the 6-foot-1 Edwards doing work from the perimeter along with attacking the rim while using his 6-6 wingspan to finish for layups as part of his 23-point night.

And he did so in what will likely be his role this season for the Celtics - off the bench.

“You’re excited about the things you see that can translate to an NBA game,” Stevens said. “And there’s other things that won’t. So, I’m excited about what they bring to the table.”

As for Edwards’ game?

“Carsen has a chance to impact our team early because he obviously can make tough shots,” Stevens said. “He’s done a great job of picking the right ones, and he’s done a great job of picking up full [court defensively] and pressuring the ball.”

Boston’s two most seasoned members of the summer league team, Robert Williams (rest) and Guershon Yabusele left pinkie injury), did not play.

After the game, Celtics summer league coach Scott Morrison said Yabusele’s injury will likely keep him out for the remainder of summer league.

Here are the Stars, Studs and Duds from Boston’s 13-point win.

STARS
Carsen Edwards:
Starting? Coming off the bench? It doesn’t really matter to Edwards, who continues to deliver the goods. In his first summer league game as a reserve, Edwards led all Celtics with 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting.

Brandon Goodwin: There was no more prolific scorer on the floor than the Nuggets' Brandon Goodwin, who led all players with a game-high 28 points on 10-for-18 shooting to go with four assists.

Tremont Waters: After a slow start, Waters came on in the fourth quarter with big shots and solid play defensively. He would finish with 12 points, five assists and two steals.

STUDS
Javonte Green
: The best free agent on Boston’s summer league team, Javonte Green’s ability to stay in attack mode has been a big reason behind him being one of the Celtics' top scorers. Getting his first start of summer league, Green had 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting, which included a couple of get-out-your-seat dunks.

Thomas Welsh: Making his presence felt both as a scorer and rebounder, the Nuggets' Welsh had a near double-double before tallying 11 points and eight rebounds.

DUDS
Aaron Harrison:
Despite being the oldest player on Boston’s summer league roster at 24, that experience hasn’t exactly helped Harrison stand out. He played 13 minutes and finished with three points while missing four of his five shot attempts.
