Smart back on court tonight for Celtics in Summer League

SALT LAKE CITY – Marcus Smart will be in and out of the Celtics’ lineup throughout the summer as the team balances getting him enough reps at point guard while affording his younger teammates to gain on-court experience.

That’s why the second-year guard will be in the Celtics’ lineup for tonight’s game against San Antonio as the Celtics look to cap off their Utah Jazz Summer League with a victory.

Smart played on Monday against Utah, scoring 26 points to go with eight assists and just two turnovers in a loss to the Jazz.

He did not play the following night in the Celtics' 76-64 loss to Philadelphia, a game in which Smart’s presence would have been a huge plus for Boston.

Smart acknowledged how challenging it was to watch his teammates lose and not be able to do anything about it.

“Just sitting when you know you could be out there helping the team in a way,” Smart said.

The Celtics move on to play in the Las Vegas Summer League this weekend where Smart anticipates he will play some but most likely not all of the Celtics games.

“Like I said, it’s up to the coaches and just go where they tell you,” he said.
