No Hayward tonight for Celtics, Rozier questionable

Celtics forward Gordon Hayward will sit out the second night of a back-to-back in Dallas tonight.

The Celtics ruled Hayward out with left ankle soreness and dubbed backup guard Terry Rozier questionable with left knee soreness on Saturday afternoon. Boston is expected to have Al Horford back in the lineup after he sat out Friday’s win in Atlanta due to left knee soreness.

This isn’t the first time this season that Hayward has sat out the second night of a back-to-back and he missed a game in New York in October. It would seem the Celtics are being cautious with Hayward, even as his playing time ramps up while no longer on a minutes restriction coming off last year’s ankle injury.

Boston plays three games in four nights on this three-game trip that concludes on Monday in New Orleans.

Rozier landed awkwardly after a dunk in Friday’s win in Atlanta but still lay 25 minutes, finishing with 12 points on 5-for-11 shooting.
