Anthony Davis still is a member of the New Orleans Pelicans, but there's a chance he's already played his last game for the team.
That's according to the New York Times' Marc Stein, who reported Wednesday night the Pelicans are considering shutting Davis down for the season if they don't move him before the NBA's Feb. 7 trade deadline.
Several teams will aggressively pursue Davis ahead of the NBA's Feb. 7 trade deadline, chief among them the Los Angeles Lakers, whose best time to strike is now. The Boston Celtics have the best assets to offer the Pelicans in a trade but can't have Davis and Kyrie Irving on their 2018-19 roster, so they'll be hoping New Orleans stands pat until the offseason.
The Lakers obviously would want Davis back on the court if they manage to snag him before Feb. 7, but the Celtics probably won't mind Davis staying off the court to ensure he's fully healthy entering the "summer of AD."
