Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant apparently are intent on reincarnating Team USA in Brooklyn.
The two recently-signed Nets stars are both "pushing" for Brooklyn to acquire Carmelo Anthony in free agency, The Athletic's Frank Isola reported Thursday.
Irving, Durant and Anthony all played for the Team USA squad that won gold at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Irving and Durant already convinced DeAndre Jordan -- another 2016 Team USA member -- to join them in Brooklyn after they bolted from the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors, respectively.
Anthony is far past his prime at age 35 and played in just 10 games for the Rockets last season before Houston unloaded him on the Bulls, who waived him in February.
But Durant will miss the entire 2019-20 season while recovering from an Achilles injury, so perhaps he and Irving are hopeful their old pal can provide a scoring boost off the bench. The Nets also lost forward Wilson Chandler to a 25-game drug suspension Thursday.
Anthony also has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers and reportedly will participate in an informal New York Knicks scrimmage, so his NBA career might not be finished yet.
