NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant to Clippers? Stephen A. Smith gives juicy update

Kevin Durant, if he leaves the Golden State Warriors next summer, likely will be the most sought after free agent since LeBron James went to the Miami Heat in 2010.

Durant is one of the top three players in the NBA and still in the prime of his career. He's the type of player whose free-agent decision would significantly alter the balance of power in the league.

The New York Knicks have been linked to Durant in several rumors over the last year or so, as have the Los Angeles Lakers. The other Los Angeles team, the Clippers, might actually have a better shot at landing Durant, however. Stephen A. Smith explained why during Friday's episode of "First Take" on ESPN.

The Boston Celtics were one of the teams Durant considered in 2016 when he was a free agent. He met with the Celtics, among other teams, before signing with the Warriors.

Would Durant consider the Celtics if he was on the free-agent market next summer? Former Celtic Glen "Big Baby" Davis seemed convinced it's a possibility when he laid out a few reasons why on Instagram last month.

The Celtics are well set up to win now with a core built around Kyrie Irving, Al Horford and Gordon Hayward, and they also have the opportunity to win well down the road with a core built around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Boston, in addition, has a treasure chest of future first-round picks, with the possibility of four in the 2019 draft.

The Celtics would be a great situation for a free agent like Durant, but he's going to have plenty of great options if he actually decides to leave Golden State.
