When we say Marcus Smart is made of glass, we're not insulting him.
He literally has glass inside of his body.
The Boston Celtics guard famously punched a picture frame in a Los Angeles hotel following a January 2018 loss to the Lakers, lacerating his right hand while lodging several shards of glass in it.
Smart missed 11 games as a result, but the injury could have been far worse: His doctor told him the glass barely missed severing an artery in his hand that may have ended his playing career.
During an interview with ESPN's Zach Lowe on Monday's episode of the "Lowe Post" podcast, Smart revealed he actually kept a piece of glass that the doctor removed from his hand as a reminder of how lucky he is.
"I actually still have the glass somewhere saved, to remind me each and every day how blessed I am to still be playing," Smart told Lowe.

"The doctor actually told me, an eighth of an inch away (and) I probably might not be playing basketball again for the rest of my life. They said it would’ve torn everything in my hand."
Smart also revealed another eye-opening detail: The doctor couldn't get all of the glass out of his hand.
"I’m looking at them opening up my hand and taking out glass, and I actually still have pieces of glass stuck in my hand now." Smart said. "They said would probably be more of a threat of them trying to go in and get it than just letting it be in my hand."
If that's not the most fitting Marcus Smart fact ever, we don't know what is.
Smart admitted his shooting suffered in the wake of his injury, but the 25-year-old apparently has gotten used to playing with foreign objects in his body: He was shooting close to 40 percent from 3-point range before hitting a rough patch on Boston's West Coast trip.
