BOSTON -- While it remains to be seen whether Marcus Smart will be rewarded with a contract extension, the 6-foot-4 guard was definitely a winner on Thursday.

During the Shamrock Foundation’s annual Tip-Off Gala which raised more than $1 million for local children’s charities, Smart was the recipient of the New England Baptist Hospital Community Champions Award.

"I'm trying to fight back tears now," Smart said.

“Through events like tonight, with great teamwork from New England Baptist Hospital, we’re able to greatly contribute to the Shamrock Foundation and help provide assistance and funding for countless local charities throughout the New England area,” said Steve Pagliuca, Celtics co-owner and President of the Shamrock Foundation. “This event is an outstanding two-fold celebration of the season and the funds raised, and I’m grateful we’re all able to come together to make it happen.”
