LeBron, IT exchange tweets amid Lakers' reported interest in ex-Celtic

Isaiah Thomas may not land with the Boston Celtics, but an NBA reunion still could be in the cards for the free-agent point guard.

The Los Angeles Lakers have considered signing Thomas using one of their open roster spots, The New York Times' Marc Stein reported Wednesday.

Thomas played 17 games for the Lakers during the 2017-18 season, so he's familiar with the organization. More importantly, he's familiar with Lakers star LeBron James, who was his teammate on the Cavaliers for the first half of the 2017-18 campaign after Boston traded Thomas to Cleveland in the summer of 2017.

In case you're wondering if James has something to do with Los Angeles' reported interest in Thomas, we'll note that LeBron tweeted his support of the ex-Celtics guard Wednesday.

Thomas was reacting to a video clip of him getting emotional after scoring 81 points in a Jordan Crawford's Seattle Pro-Am league. Needless to say, the 32-year-old appreciated James' shout-out. (Warning: Tweet contains NSFW language.)

The Celtics also were reported to have interest in Thomas, who blossomed into a star and fan favorite during his two-plus seasons in Boston from 2015 to 2017.

But after adding Dennis Schroder to a crowded point guard group that includes Marcus Smart, Payton Pritchard and Kris Dunn, it seems highly unlikely the C's will reunite with Thomas.

Celtics fans will be rooting for Thomas wherever he ends up, though -- even if he lands with Boston's longtime NBA nemesis.
