Fundraising and public awareness campaign shines light on child and family homelessness

ROXBURY, MA (February 29, 2016) – Horizons for Homeless Children, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of young homeless children by ensuring they have access to early education and opportunities to play, today announced its partnership with Comcast SportsNet and the BostonCeltics for the fourth annual “Horizons Week,” a weeklong fundraising and homelessness awareness campaign that will run from February 29th through March 4th.

As part of the campaign, multiple public service announcements will air in heavy rotation on Comcast SportsNet throughout the week, as well as in-program integration and additional robust television coverage. Walmart will be a matching sponsor for home games held during theweek.

“Heading into the fourth year of this campaign, it’s fantastic to reflect on the partnership with Horizons for Homeless Children and the awareness we are able to generate with these collective efforts,” said Bill Bridgen, President of Comcast SportsNet New England. “We’ll be using our network assets once again to help promote the message about the importance of early education for young, homeless children – a message that we think our viewers and fans take to heart.”

“Homelessness in Massachusetts is on the rise, and it is our mission to provide educational opportunities to the children who are affected by this stressful experience,” said Kate Barrand, President and CEO of Horizons for Homeless Children. “Fantastic partners like Comcast SportsNet and the Boston Celtics help us share this urgent message with our local communities. We’re thrilled to be working together again on such an important issue.

“It is very important to me to shed light on the fact that child homelessness is a growing issue in our country,” said Celtics guard Avery Bradley. “As a dad, I want to help even more – and by supporting Horizons, I am able to help the kids right here in Massachusetts.”

Each week, Horizons for Homeless Children improves the lives of 2,000 young homeless children in Massachusetts while working with their families to increase their economic and social well-being. Donations can be made online by visiting www.horizonschildren.org/donatetoday.
