Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward's fantastic performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night was truly historic.
He scored a career-high 39 points in Boston's 119-113 victory at Quicken Loans Arena, including a perfect 16-for-16 mark on 2-point shots. The last player to make that many 2-point shots without a single miss was Wilt Chamberlain in 1967. Chamberlain led the Philadelphia 76ers to the franchise's first NBA championship that season.
Hayward wasn't just a scorer versus the Cavs. He also dished out eight assists and pulled down seven rebounds, including an offensive board in the final minute of the fourth quarter where he scored two clutch points to extend Boston's lead.
The Celtics were slotted a tier below the Milwaukee Bucks and 76ers in the Eastern Conference by many experts before the season, and that definitely was a fair assessment. However, if Hayward continues to play with the aggressiveness offensively that he's shown through six games, the ceiling for this Celtics team could be much higher than most people thought.
